Contact Sheets - Updated Version

Image
In these images, they show how I printed my contact sheet off, however, I had some difficulties in my classroom so I moved to a different computer in a different classroom to complete printing them off. As you can see these are more images but my teacher has circled some of them which stand out to her. She likes these images because they lighting is good on them and the background goes well with the pose of the model.

Prop list, Costume list and Actor/Model list

Image
Prop List: While i was taking the pictures of my models i did not use any props. Costume List: I found two coats from the drama department in Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School; I got one brown furry coat, and a long black biker coat. Actor/Model List: For my models I used one of my classmates Alex Connors and another pupil at the school James Evans. The lighting in these images makes the models look more defined. It makes their jaw lines look sharper and it gives them a more chiseled facial structure. The lighting on Alex's hair also makes it lighter and gives it a healthy look. The way me and James are looking away from each other gives an idea to the reader that we repel one another and it gives two sides to view. The way Alex is looking off into the distance gives an effect that he is looking ahead to see what challenges/obstacles he has to overcome.

Contact Sheet - First Attempt

Image
I was inspired by a number of different magazines to take these shots such as: Billboard, NME, Vibe and Kerrang. I have selected a few of them which i am going to use in my music magazine and the rest i have just crossed off because I am not going to use them. I will try and get similar shots that I have selected to use but I will put a background in by editing the green-screen and by going out and taking shots with the background already in it. It is good to use green-screen because I can put any image I want as the background and it's much easier than going out and finding the right place. However, the quality will be much better if I go to different locations and take the shots in real life. The lighting on some of the images can effect how the models look e.g. if there is a shadow over the face of the model then they may appear to look more moody. I have used this effect in some of these shots but I have also put a lot of lighting on their face to make their eyes stand out an...

Mood Board

Image
This mood board shows where I got my inspiration from to take my shots the way I did. As you can see I like the black and white pictures because they can sometimes add more effect to the photo depending on what message you want to get across.

Third wave feminism

THIRD WAVE FEMINISM The third wave was in the 1980's and 1990's. Unlike in the first and second wave, there was less emphasis on the battles for equality. However, there was MORE emphasis on the positive nature of ambiguity and difference (not all women are the same, it doesn't matter!) A lot of women started looking up to the spice girls because they shown a lot of girl power from the media point of view. Empowering heroines like Xena and Buffy. POST FEMINISM Celebrates the diversity of identity available to women.  Positive endorsement of consumerism. Sometimes seen as 'anti-feminism'. If women knew that femininity is a construct, then they can play with its signs, symbols and identities from a position of power.  Semiotic guerilla warfare - meaning of signifiers such as high heels/lipstick/designer clothes can be shifted from powerless to powerful.  GAUNTLETT (2002) "Men and women are seen working side by side, as equals, in the hospital...

Feminism- Stereotyping

Feminists have made great progress in attempting to get rid of those traditional stereotypes. However, some may argue that they have been replaced by equally disempowering stereotypes... FIRST WAVE FEMINISM Around mid 19th - early 20th century women fought for social and political equality. One of their biggest fights was the struggle for women's suffrage, which is the right to vote. In 1918 women won this fight which granted women over the age of 30 the right to vote. However, they kept fighting as they were still not equal with men, due to this, ten years later in 1928 women received the right to vote on equal terms as men. Women were concerned with their rights of education, employment and marriage laws. Because of their successes with being able to vote, they then proceeded to gain the right of higher education, married women property rights and the widening of access to professions such as medicine. SECOND WAVE FEMINISM The liberation movement of 1960's 197...

Feminism

FEMINISM Feminists seek to challenge the unfair and unequal distribution of power and wealth in patriarchal society.  A patriarchal society is one based on male rule and domination. Feminists are particularly interested in the contribution made by the media to society's dominant ideas about gender roles. GENDER ROLES The mass media play a crucial role in teaching us how to behave and think in ways that our culture finds acceptable.  Sex is biological, gender is CULTURAL. What does it mean to be a woman/man?  Traditional gender stereotypes- Femininity: Caring                                         Lower status, poorly paid work- childcare, nursing, Nurturing                                                         ...

Semiotics

Semiotics - This is about the meaning in media texts, it's studying how a producer tries to get that message across (that is the signs and the signifiers). Syntagm - A simple word or element of design that, when altered, can change the overall meaning. A key piece of information which if it's changed then it changes our perception and what we understand. Paradigm - A group or related idea that are interchangeable in a sentence or design, yet they still have the same collective meaning. It is a set of rules that we check things against to make sure they make sense. E.G- A panda enters a restaurant, it eats shoots and leaves. A panda enters a restaurant, it eats, shoots (with a gun) and leaves (the restaurant). Sign - When a signifier involves a signified concept in someones mind a sign has occured. The relationship between a signifier and the signified is arbitrary. An example would be the word 'eagle' has no relation the the concept of an eagle, it is learnt throu...

Green Screening

Image
This is an image showing the progress that i have made from when i first took the picture on the left, the picture on the right is after i have edited it on Adobe Photoshop to get rid of any spots and marks. Because this now makes the picture look professional. This image shows how I used Photoshop and green screen to put an image in the background and make it look as though I was actually there. The first image on the left shows me before any editing as you can see the green background, and the image on the right is after editing and after i have used the green screen to put an image behind me to add more effect to my magazine. As you can see, i have changed the picture of me and i have used a new background to add am effect that there is colourful rays of light coming from me to show that i am the main part of the image and to make people focus on me. I used Adobe Photoshop to make this image and i also edited the lighting slightly to show that there is ...

Page thumbnails

Image
The image above is a template of the music magazine  front cover i am going to make, i got inspiration from Billboard  magazines which give me an idea of how to create my front cover. This thumbnail was simple to make as i only needed a ruler, a pencil  and a rubber. This is an example of my Contents page that i want to make. I researched a few contents pages and I picked up a few ideas of how to make it but i was mainly inspired by Vibe's music magazine. To draw this thumbnail i used a ruler, a pencil and a rubber. This is an image of the double page spread i am going to make. I got inspiration from Bliss Boys magazine I got ideas for the layout from them. This image didn't take too much effort to make as i only needed a ruler, a pencil and a rubber. I had to turn my book sideways to draw this double-page spread because it gave me more room to draw it on a bigger scale.
